How do I stop lucid dreaming???

I’ve been lucid dreaming every night for several years and I’m fucking sick of it. I’ve done everything there is to do. I’ve flown. I’ve teleported. I’ve run at the speed of light. I’ve killed my high school bullies in a industrial microwave and slept with their wives and husbands. I’ve frozen time. I’ve spoken to deceased relatives. I’ve had dinner with every celebrity I can think of. I’ve thrown my ex husbands yacht into a black hole. I’ve eaten a luxurious feast without gaining a single calorie.

I’m bored. I want to dream normally again, but I can’t. I’ve been trying to stop for 2 months now and it’s not working. These days in my dreams I’ll literally just be sitting on a nice leather couch, reading a book that my mind thought up. It’s getting really boring, as the books are all just the same gibberish.

Anyone know how to make the switch back? I’m thinking of just giving up sleep entirely for a few nights, maybe to force a hard reset.

What's the difference?

Lucid dreaming doesn’t mean you control the dreams. It just means you’re aware that you’re dreaming.

If you don’t try to control it, the dream will develop on its own and created it’s own plots.

Nah I control them

[deleted]

I mean, sure, you can control them if you want. But that’s not the definition of lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreams form on their own, regardless of whether you control them.

So if you let go of the control, you can have interesting plots that unfold on their own

With the amount of control you claim to have, you could just let go and dream normally. I e never heard such bullshit. Are you trying to impress people?

No, actually. The problem, OP has, is being used to controlling your dreams. You're literally omnipotent at that point and letting go of such power, only because it's getting boring, can still be hard to achieve. You have to be willing to accept th surprises your subconscious has to offer for your dreams and for that you have to give away all of the control you're used to have, without throwing away lucidity, as you'll want to enjoy the show. Took me months to achieve that (although I took the hard way, inserting a "switch" in case I feel like bein omnipotent for the night)

Eh, sounds like you actually lack enough control. If you had more control, you could simply make yourself lose lucidity or lose control so the dream develops on their own. What happens when you try to let go? What about creating a new world or universe? What about setting limits?

2

iLucidDream333

That makes no sense because there is no possible way that you can automatically have continuous lucid dreams unless you have:

  1. A sleep disorder that causes this, or
  2. Trained A LOT

The first one is easily resolved... you see a doctor. The second one is also easily resolved. Lucid dreaming is a conscious act, unless you have a sleeping disorder. You have to consciously want to have and try to have lucid dreams. Therefore, to stop it from happening, just don't try to have them. Your subconscious mind will eventually get the point and stop you from having them. It will soon turn to vivid dreams, then to regular dreams, and finally, you will not even remember having dreamt when you wake up.

You sure you are not just trolling?

Surprise, bro, you're not right. I didn't say wrong, because for people, who casually learned it as a skill, what you say might be true. Now, I for one can rule out both of your options and I'm lucid every single night and I have been all my life (which one might call "a lot of praxis"), but I've never fallen asleep with the intention of being lucid. I simply am. Now for the matter of dream control the ultimate control is to not control anything, while staying lucid, so you can enjoy the show.

But, yes. You can be lucid without wanting to and if you're used to it, it can be a long process to give away control and I personally render it impossible to not be lucid anymore (in the sense of being aware of dreaming)

Well, your case is so rare that most people would not know how to stop it. I have been teaching people to lucid dream since 1996 and can tell you that most people that becomes masters at it can simply stop lucid dreaming by not intentionally doing the things to cause it (ie. reality checks, journaling, focusing, etc). Don’t get me wrong, those same people will get an unwanted lucid dream once in a while, but those are one-offs. You are saying every night which leads me to believe that you have a sleep disorder that is causing you to become lucid every night. Most people are not aware that they have a sleep disorder until they are a sleep doctor. Actually, if I am not mistaken, half of the population suffers from some type of sleep disorder. It looks like your sleep is very light which is causing this. But to summarize, it is NOT normal that you are having unwanted lucid dreams every night and can’t turn it off. Your subconscious mind is usually very good at seeing you do not want this and eventually stop it from happening. Especially, if you are not actively doing techniques to activate lucid dreams.

Once again I have to contradict. My sleep is very far away from light. In fact, most of my friends couldn't succeed in waking me up, before I told them the only viable way to wake me up, before I had enough sleep (which is good, loud music paired with physical impulses). And I don't have unwanted lucid dreams every night. I cherish my dreams, actually. But theres a difference between simpky being lucid and having full control over your dreams, because you're used to it, although you think it boring and would like something new that only your subconscious could create. Again, I am still lucid every night, but I learned to get rid of the control and only take over every once in a while to make sure I can still do it. So, the hard process was to actively give up the control as it feels like being omnipotent and that's quite something to give up. I wouldn't want to not be lucid, but I prefer the plots of my subconscious nowadays, rather than having to create it myself.

Ok, I do now know what you are going on about. Your original message was about how do you stop lucid dreaming. You mention in the body of the message that you lucid dream every night and wish to stop them from happening. I reread your message to make sure I read it properly. For me, it sounded like you are saying that lucid dreams are automatically happening to you (unwanted lucid dreams), and you wish to stop them.

Now, you say, "you don't have unwanted lucid dreams every night." Maybe, you are not explaining yourself correctly, or I am not understanding, either case, my experience and stance still holds. Why?

Regarding you saying that you do sleep deeply, that may be the case. The SCIENTIFIC facts are, if you are having automatic lucid dreams every night and do not wish to have them, it is either one of two causes. 1) You are still doing things that create the environment to have lucid dreams, or 2) You have a sleeping disorder that causes this. You can either heed my advice based on experience, or completely ignore the back-and-forth we've been having. It's up to you. With that said, I am continuing on to the next person that would like help. Take care, and good luck.

DesignerJury269

Before I read the rest of the comment: I'm not the OP. I could simply relate and tried explaining the issue of being in full control for decades to you

1

DesignerJury269

Besides that, I meant I'm not hacing unwanted lucid dreams, because I'm used to being lucid and am now at a point of full control (including letting go of that control at will). To be fair, this might cause an expectation to be lucid as I've always been and thus cause lucid dreams. As well, as I'm a natural that never had to do anything for it, I wouldn't in all detail know if my sleeping environment just happens to be beneficial for lucid dreams. But again, I'm not the OP, but just another of those crazy natural LDs and the "you can be lucid without wanting to" was absolutely my mistake, as I was mostly referring to being in control, rather than just being lucid, as the latter is normal from my perspective anyways and I don't know anything but being lucid. Still thanks for trying to help, but I like to have my own show every night :)

1

iLucidDream333

Ok, I see where the conversation went completely wrong. I thought I was replying to the OP. Yes, there are people that are "naturals". They seem to have lucid dreams whenever they want. You are one of the lucky ones cause in my experience dealing with many lucid dreamers, most have difficulty inducing them and not the opposite.

1

DesignerJury269

Well, people always want what they don't have. I prefer "normal" dreams without control, as the surprises are what makes it interesting once you've done about everything there is. Others struggle with becoming lucid and strive to achieve full control, not yet understanding the dangers of their goal. Being lucid by default and having full control can be a blessing and a curse

1

iLucidDream333

Well, depending on the person. I've been having lucid dreams since I was a teen using different techniques. I get them just about every day. There are times when I am not in the "mood" to have them, but I am blessed that I have this ability and always look forward to having them. Once again, depends on the person and what you do while in lucid dream. I use it to confront my fears, how to deal with different scenarios in my waking life, fly around, visit different places, discover my subconscious mind, etc. Therefore, every day is a different experience for me.

1

DesignerJury269

I did the same, but I realized that dislike reality. You probably understand whatI mean, when I say it's hard to be just a human, whenin your dreams you can be and do anything you like. That ans the fact that I was able to get rid of most illogical fears caused me to not take control of most dreams nowadays

You considered making a PR? Persistent realms are dream worlds you can return to night after night with consistent characters, their own naratives and plot lines, etc. I know several omnis, or people who are always lucid, talking 7 or more lucid dreams a night, and this is what they do. Also, it doesn't have to be about controlling the dream. Being lucid is simply knowing that you're dreaming. Let dream plots happen, and act like you can't control things, maybe create dream worlds where you have rules about how controls work. u/Hukif has created some interesting rules. In his dream worlds, he has to learn and develop powers based on whatever system that world uses, and if he dies he forgets that character to make it more interesting. He's been doing this though for a long time, like 25 some odd years. Here's a good guide on persistent realms.

wish I had those kind of problems, anyways I think you should just go with the flow of the dream, it will eventually create a plot on its own

What happens if you don't choose to do anything in your dream?

1

The dream will form it’s on plots unless you purposely choose to stay in one spot.

Sufficient_Physics22

I wasn't asking in general. I was asking the OP who is claiming they can't have a non-lucid dream and is tired of 'doing things'.

So my question stands. If they are tired of directing every dream, I am asking what happens in their dream, if they don't take action or firm an intent to direct the dream

Not in my experience. There are no plots anymore other than the ones I create myself. Believe me, I’ve tried to do nothing and it just resulted in me standing in a white room with no windows for seemingly eternity

When one gets bored, just ask my subconscious to suprise me. Gives dreams beyond imagination and stuff to ponder on for months. Also - attitude, practice being greatful and life will provide more

1

DesignerJury269

As I already mentioned in several replies to people calling your story a hoax, I've experienced the same dilemma. People, who've just recently learned the "skill", might not understand that, but after many years (talking decades even), being lucid and also having full control can become both boring and tiring rather than enjoyable. I personally had to reduce my power in very small steps in order to stay lucid, but letting my subconscious taking over the plot for me to enjoy. Meaning, I started by leaving out details, slowly working my way up to not caring about my location and finally embracing to not have a plan and expect a nice show that I don't have to think of myself. Certainly took months, but it's working and hell, the subconscious has amazing plots

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

Thank you so much for your reply. Seems like the others in this thread believe that the human subconscious is so simplistic that every person must have the same experience with it.

1

DesignerJury269

Glad, I could help a bit. You can certainly learn to give the control to your subconscious, although it might take time and concentration (not much more than creating your own story every night). From what I saw in this sub, most people here habe only learned lucid dreaming rather recently and at a later age and I think, I so far met a maximum of 3 people, who are able to lucid dream every night. Everyone else just eagerly wants to learn how to do it, without being able to comprehend the possible downsides in both the dream realm and real world.

I wish you lots of luck and power to get through it and give away full control. You can do it :)
