Changing 'last person' to 'last adult', I think it'd go something like this.

"Well kids, you know the disaster that...."

'yeah dad, we know'

"And back 50 years ago the....."

'yeah dad, ya told us.'

...

How would he tell his children if he's the last person on earth?

Was just about to ask.

Either there's more to the sentence, or else it just doesn't make sense.

They’re gonna go live in the fabulous city we’re going to build on Mars any day now.

Simple. He gets someones frozen eggs, fertilize those eggs, make an artifical womb and implant the embryo. Wait for it to be done baking and boom! Baby that he can now tell his story to.

That would... Still mean that he was not the last person on earth

The children are part of the na’vi. They aren’t humans, but they’re his children

From… outer space? Do they live on another planet too, because they’d need to for him to be the only person on earth, right?

ELI5 how the last person on earth has children to tell stories about being the last person on earth to, when those children are also people on earth, thereby making him NOT the last person on earth?

What if the kids are on Mars?

Beside the huge logical issue of having no children to tell it to, I don’t get this. Why would he have a lot to tell? I don’t get this thought at all

You don’t get the thought or you don’t get how to think?

I don’t get the thought. In a „normal life“ complex things happen cause of the many possibilities. The last person on earth wouldn’t have all these complex little details? It’s just a „well there was a bomb“ kinda explanation …

Well there’s not gonna be a whole lot to do besides tell them things

  1. How do you know it’s a guy?
  2. If he was the last person on Earth, he couldn’t tell his kids anything.
  3. Just want to clarify since you used the future tense, he wouldn’t be able to have children either if he was the last person.
