I enjoy letting my alarm ring for an hour or so after I wake up

I’m a city kid who goes to school at a quiet, rural university. Needles to say, I miss the noise. My entire first semester of college (AKA last fall), I found myself totally disoriented in the mornings due to the lack of car horns, shouts, etc. Then one morning I woke up to my alarm clock— I have one of those digital red LED ones that go BRONK-BRONK, BRONK-BRONK, BRONK-BRONK— and I decided to just let it ring. I did my entire morning routine with it ringing and it just made everything feel right. It was so loud I could hear it in the hallway bathroom with the shower running. I have been letting it run for at least an hour after I wake up, and I have never felt so energized throughout the day. My roommates don’t seem to mind, even though they hardly talk to me anymore. I’m more of an introvert anyway, so this current situation is ideal.

Yes, your roommates 100% mind. They’re going to break that alarm clock over your face one of these days lol

Oh they mind. They may deal with it temporarily, but they'll snap. They're trying to be civil since you live together but you're making it so much more tense. Use headphones if you really wanna just listen to it.

Yeah when people stop talking to you that usually means they do NOT like you as much as they used too. Especially when they stopped talking when you started doing this..
I would suggest to stop doing it before they all get together and decide to kick you out...

Trust me, the people you live with DO mind. They just don’t want to say anything. This sounds like it would be annoying as fuck to live with. It might even be waking them up.

Breaking news! Alarm clock wakes people up!!

In all seriousness, if they minded, they would have told me. But I’ll ask then tonight since I’m getting bombarded with comments.

EldunarIan

They aren't telling you because people don't like confronting people.

Lol this reaction to a simple explanation of why it would inconvenience someone is very telling about why your roommates don’t talk to you to the point of not wanting to ask you to not blare an alarm for an hour every morning

“I’m more of an introvert”

Nah you don’t talk to anyone because they don’t wanna talk to you. They think your the weird guy that’s might shoot yo the dorm

Damn I got baited by a troll acc lmao

Your alarm clock is supposed to wake YOU up. Not everyone else you live with (I’m guessing you have separate bedrooms). If you’re sharing a bedroom and you’re forcing someone to listen to your alarm every morning for an entire HOUR, you’re an incredibly shitty roommate.

Like, yes, alarms can wake your flatmates up. It happens and it’s just part of living with others. But you should turn your alarm off straight away and let your flat mates get back to sleep.

If I can hear my upstairs and downstairs neighbors in a totally separate apartment in a concrete building that was built in 2001, the people sharing the same living space can hear your alarm.

And they hate it.

Your poor roommates. That’s inhumane.

Can you wear headphones and listen to the loud city noises? They make waterproof earbuds if you really need it in shower.

Or move in with some deaf people instead because I agree with the other commenters about how you are rapidly alienating your housemates.

HolleringCorgis

This is so selfish.

Like, I get needing the noise but headphones exist. You don't have to push the limits until someone says something. You can choose to be considerate from the start.

Especially because many people would feel awkward confronting such antisocial behavior.

I mean, you're getting ready with it on. So they're aware you're doing it intentionally. That's such abnormal behavior I wouldn't blame someone for avoiding you entirely rather than take a chance on confronting you.

You're a bad roommate. Stop seeing how much you can get away with at the expense of your roommates.

Wear headphones and blare that shit to your hearts content.

The world doesn't revolve around you. You aren't the main character.

Grow up.

You're like my roommate in college! He managed to do this twice. The third time, I unplugged his clock and he woke up two hours late. He was very angry and it never happened again.

Your roommates do mind. Maybe look for city noise videos on YouTube to play in the background. And not as loudly. And maybe learn to adjust to the quiet at least somewhat, it will build character. As it is, you're setting yourself up to be a disagreeable and stubborn individual.

At first I thought this was reasonable. Then I realized you live with OTHER PEOPLE

Dick move to leave it running while also having it loud enough to hear down the hall with the shower running.

People do mind, it's just they don't want to confront you because people don't like being confrontational

When I was in college people like you were my least favorite people on the hall. It reached the point where after 6 months of listening to the alarm going off across the hall for 2 hours that I snapped and if an alarm was going on longer than 5 minutes I was banging on that door. It is unbelievably infuriating and you need to stop. Use headphones and play an alarm sound after you initially wake or whatever the fuck you need, but stop torturing your neighbors.

Mate, my flatmate does this and if I could shove the alarm up his arsenal I would. This alarm rings from 6am until half 7. Don't do this it's not sociable and makes people resent you.

I hate this guy now, there's nothing he can do it's a selfish decision and deserves shunning.

I suspect it does bother your roommates, but they may be too kind to say anything since they know you like it. A sound machine would be a lot more pleasant and still allow you to have some background noise in the mornings!

When I read that, I actually thought this was a shitpost and went to check OP's profile to see if it's a brand new account--which it is not--so maybe they actually believe that? Doubtful, but what a quote regardless.

YTA.

Wait, wrong sub.

You're still an asshole, though. Your roommates DO mind, they just don't know how to confront you.

Live alone if you're going to pull that shit. Somewhere secluded, because your neighbors probably hate you too.

I had a roommate that would turn off my timers and steal my food right out of the oven and leave the trash/dirty dishes/leftovers laying out for me to see. When confronted she genuinely didn't seem to see a problem and assumed I was cooking for us both. Some people are really, really selfish.
