Basically, my dads an English Teacher at the local public high school and heās the advisor for the robotics club. While I myself attend a private school in the area, my dad often asks me to come help supervise the clubā he will go out for a smoke about once an hour, so during those 30 minutes I am usually the only one watching the kids.
Now it might help to add that public school kids are a different breed. The shit they pull is astounding. At my school, thereās a sort of informal motto: āNo B.S.ā (āBeing Sillyā, according to the teachers, though we all know the true meaning of that acronym). It seems like the opposite motto is held by public school kids, even the so-called bright ones.
Today I was extra tired from a day of taking tests for 5 different classes, and I was in a sour mood. Even while my dad was there, this kid Dempin was acting up: putting magnets into his ears, for example, or juggling batteries. My dad snapped at him, which caused the problem behavior to stop, but right after that he went on a smoke break.
It didnāt take Dempin long to start back up again, and this time he was running around and spraying kids with his inhaler. I told him to stop, but he wouldnāt listen. So when he passed me by I tripped him and took the inhaler from where it had landed on the floor.
I didnāt say anything, I just went to the front of the class and threw it into a black cabinet and shut it inside. Dempin began pleading with me to get it back, which I ignored. I guess the stress and the running around really got him, because he started wheezing like a cat with a hairball. At first I thought he was joking or trying to trick me into giving it back, but it became clear very quickly that he was having an asthma attack. I ran to my dads desk and tried to get into the cabinet with Dempinās inhaler, but it wouldnāt open. I realized then that it was a safe, not a cabinet.
I had Dempin come down with me to the school entrance where my dad was having his smoke. This wasnāt the best idea in hindsight, given that we had to go down 4 flights of stairs and then breathe in dense cigarette smoke, but I wasnāt thinking straight.
I gave my dad a rundown of what happened and he immediately called an ambulance. He kept calling me irresponsible and foolish, which I suppose I deserved. It wasnāt until Dempin was loaded into the ambulance that my dad told me that the safe was one that he got at an antique store and he hadnāt gotten around to changing the code from whatever it had been before.
We stayed outside Dempinās hospital room for hours, and it seems like heās going to be okay. But his parents are furious and Iām scared they are going to press charges.
TL;DR I underestimated the foolishness of Public school kids

holy shit you're an asshole and you fucked up massively
the kids aren't foolish, you and your dad are

Idk if anyone depending on an inhaler to breathe would just willy billy spray people with it.
That stuff is expensive and not supposed to be sprayed on people.

Pretending to be a shared account isn't going to magically give you a pass for everything.

Heās still a kid. Heās not had any training. His dad is the one legally and morally responsible here.
4
Nope. Heās been bartending for 7 years. Heās a 35 year old aspiring NBA star. Heās a 22 year old female literature student.

This is so fucking hilarious LMAO

What in the world is wrong with you?
This is entirely your own fault. Tripping children and taking away their direly needed medication.
I'm sorry, did your parents ever teach you what common sense is? Or even human decency?
In what world can you possibly think taking away a child's medicine is in any way acceptable?
25
Nah, the fault is with the adult who left children alone with a bigger child to smoke while on duty.
OP messed up, but he was set up for failure.
13
That kid is running around wasting his medicine by spraying it on other kids, you're crazy if you think a teacher isn't confiscating that shit.
The issue is that the medicine became inaccessible, and also the tripping is a bit problematic, but that might just be an over-exaggeration, hopefully.
3
Yeah but you havenāt met that little shit, Dempin.
1
Good āol Dempin. That little shit.
Edit 1: Lolā¦ā¦āDempinā
Edit 2: Fuck Dempin

Dempin is fully recovered, thankfully.
1
Oh? Is Dempin in the room with us right now?
1
I donāt even need to read it, but you shouldnāt be anywhere near children. Maybe stay away from people all together.
Also your dad shouldnāt either

Dempin aināt easy

If you confiscate something like this, it goes on the desk infront of you, plain sight. Also after 10mins or so give it back. Rinse and repeat. Its emergency medicine you shouldn't lock it up. Also tell the parents what theyre doing with their medicine
Its worth asking the school reception if they keep a spare for emergency use. Some do. Also ask the class, does anyone have one he can borrow. Most asthmatics have let someone else have a few puffs of theirs in an emergency.
Stay calm, you panic they panic. Ask if they want water. Get them to sit down. Remember asthma can be wheezing and shallow breathing, but it can also be constant coughing.
It was daft what you did, but it wasnt malicious. You got him help straight away. I bet you've certainly learnt your lesson. Make sure you apologise for over reacting.
14
Think the part where he tripped the kid in order to take away his inhaler may have been malicious.

Yeah, but what about Dempin? He could be the next Hitler. Itās bad enough that heās the first Dempin.
2
Fuck Dempin tbh, he's a little shit.
2
Your dad takes 30 min smoke breaks every hour? WTF?
Second, you assaulted a child. Yesh.
You didn't underestimate the foolishness of public school kids. The school district overestimated your father, who could lose his job over this.
2
You sound like a private school kid tbh
Take that for what you willā¦ā¦ā¦

Meh. The kid was being a dick. He won't be playing with the inhaler again. Served him right.
Its his goddamn medicine
3
Does Dempin deserve medicine though? Think about it.
1
Yes
1
Agree to disagree
1
Dawg what his life was put in dangerš
1
You donāt know Dempin.
1
And? Kid was messing around. Learned him good
1
Kid's life was in danger
1
Well it will teach him to be more responsible won't it. Not everyone else's job. I don't care how oldhe is.
1
Theres a way better way to do that
1
Your not allowed to smack them anymore. That's what he needed.
1
Well there's always a better way isn't there?
Little kid was being a spaz. Needed a smack. That's been made illegal. So she did what she did and the kid didn't die.
1
No need to throw it into a random cabinet, if you're going to Take away the inhaler the obvious move would be to Keep it close to you just in case, not throw it into a random cabinet that just so happened to be a vault that no one knows how to open
1
She said she didn't know that. She should of slapped him up the side of the head.
