[Sun Care] I deformed his face and feel awful— what surgery/topical medication can fix it?

I was scrolling thru instagram and saw a picture of a guy I went to uni with and was filled with remorse because of what I did to him.

This dude dated the guy I had a huge crush on at the start of freshman year and broke his heart really dramatically halfway through the year. Like the angsty idiotic 19 year old girl I was, I took it upon myself to get revenge, convinced this would make my crush fall in love with me.

I knew the guy had a serious sun sensitivity. I’m talking, he could not go outside on a cloudy day without SPF 150 sun sensitivity. So what I did was sneak into his room (I knew his roommate from water club) and replaced his sunscreen with retinol, which I had heard made your skin extra sensitive to sunlight. The switch was astonishingly easy, since he kept his sunscreen in a ziploc bag.

You can probably guess the rest? His face was so badly burnt, he was hospitalized. I assumed over time it would heal, but the picture I just saw is 9 years later and his face is still severely fucked up.

I never did tell anyone about this, not even my crush who I did it for. I was planning on telling him if we dated, but that didn’t pan out as he later rejected me (he was gay, duh, again I blame 19 year old brain)

I’m incredibly upset at what I did. I’ve been looking through this guys socials, and it looks like he’s had a really good life despite all this, but he has looked like a monster in all of his photos for a almost a decade and will probably continue to for the rest of his life.

I recently came into a lot of money and want to spend whatever it takes to fix this guys face for him. I realize I acted out of malice and went way too far with my revenge, and I think more than anything I want to make it right. I’m probably going to reach out to him with my general offer, but I want to have specific surgeries and stuff I can suggest right off the bat. Anything come to mind?

I'm afraid your concern cannot be addressed with skincare, so it's outside the purview of this subreddit. As such, I've removed your post for being unrelated. There are no repercussions to this removal.

Best of luck.

I don't know what to say.

You're a criminal.

I applaud you for having come to your senses but this is absolutely shocking regardless.

If it's true.

There is no way anyone can tell you what would help this guy especially without pictures.

Honestly, again if this is true, you should probably go to the police and report yourself and then work through lawyers to get him money and he is free to do with he likes with it.

This is not going to turn out the way you think it will. You committed a serious crime and can be arrested and prosecuted. You can and should make restitution, but do not expect him to be grateful, in fact count yourself lucky if he doesn't have you charged.

Just know, he will probably press charges if you confess this to him. This is a criminal offense and with his proof of being hospitalized and subsequent years of facial trauma, he would have a VERY easy case against. You are confessing to a crime here, and to be honest the fact that you don't seem to realize this is a literal crime makes it seem like you haven't matured all that much.

As far as things to do to fix it, GHK-CU peptide is great at stimulating wound healing and collagen formation in skin so maybe look into that. He could have sessions of ablative laser resurfacing done, immediately followed by topical application of 2% ghk-cu. It would take multiple sessions of this and run in the $5k range but after a few months of treatment it would considerably improve his facial skin health and appearance.

No, dude, it says right in the post that it was "surprisingly easy" because the recipient stores thier sunscreen in a ziploc bag. I assumed they meant decanted, just... a clear sack of unidentified lotion. Absolutely asinine.
