Mom sent article about an evil historical figure who had the name I told her I wanted for my baby

Comments

I’m expecting my first little one this winter and am very excited. I haven’t decided on a name yet, but I am feeling really strongly about one in particular. I told my mom about it last night and she clearly did not like it at all. She didn’t even try to hide her disgust, which got me really upset. I told her she was being hurtful and hung up on her.

Today, she sent a History Channel article to the family group chat about a Spanish conqueror who in the 1300s tortured hundreds of Irish people. The conquerors name was the one I brought up to her last night. She had the audacity to claim that she “saw it on the News app and thought it was intriguing.” The article was from 2013.

I don’t even know what to think of this. I’m very upset and feel like she is completely ruining this name for me. Anyone dealt with anything similar?

EDIT: I’ve had enough glasses of wine to doll out the name I’m considering. It’s Cidrick (like El Cid) haha
