Will my child be held accountable for his friend almost causing a bus crash with my son’s laser

My son is a hooligan, plain and simple. I got him a laser for his last birthday and recently he and his friends have been going near the airport and trying to blind pilots. Of course, I immediately grounded him for this when I found this out. And yes, I took away the laser. Well today was his birthday and he begged me before school to get the laser. I made him promise no pilots and he agreed.

To be fair, he was true to his word. It wasn’t a pilot his friends targeted. Instead, these idiots decided to shine the laser down from the second floor window into the faces of bus drivers after school. Apparently they got one right in the eye balls as they were leaving the lot! The driver very nearly drove right across the median into oncoming traffic, but thank god they hit the emergency break right before. The teachers caught my son and his friends in a bathroom stall, shoving their hands down a toilet trying to get the laser to flush.

My son came home crying and said it wasn’t him, that his friend was the one who shone the laser, that he told him it was a bad idea, the works. It’s too earlier to tell if charges will be pressed or a suit filed, but i want to prepare for the worst. Will be son be immune from the law?

In the last couple weeks, you’ve been in high school, an accountant for 15 years, a man and a woman. Perhaps stop creative writing exercises and karma farming and go touch grass?

Yeah this "person" certainly seems to be a shape shifter with a penchant for storytelling. And don't forget, the cast iron for injury happened to both him... and her!

OP is a 15 year old nonbinary high schooler that has had a bank account their parents set up from birth. There. Covered the bases.

Searching Reddit for “Pakistani Commune Account” literally only returns you. Give up your creative writing diary.

Why the fuck would you give the laser back? That's just plain stupid. Hope your kid and his friend catch some charges. They deserve it.

OP should catch charges too

Why would he be immune?

Because the laser isn't exactly an illegal item to have, and doesn't require any special permit or licensing. OP's kid would have complete immunity, especially if him and the other friend both testified against the one who did it. Unless all 3 friends start blaming each other so they decide to charge them all. But we dont actually know if OP's kid was honest about who did it. Quite the pickle.

He certainly should be held accountable

Not if he didn't do anything. What exactly would be the charge? No group charges are available unless the friends all start blaming each other for doing it, in which case it's gonna be a lengthy investigation and all 3 may take the fall, unless 2 are convinced to gang up on 1. But even if they definitively knew who did it, only that 1 kid would face legal charges, while the other 2 would probably face suspension or expulsion from school just for being there.

Depends on age and location. If young enough you will be expected to pay for his actions.

If he wasn't the one who shined it, he wouldn't exactly be responsible for anything as he didn't do it. The blame falls squarely on the one who did it.

He shouldn’t be responsible, but the parent could be.

All of them are guilty. Accomplice liability.

You will be held accountable of any one brings civil charges. If it was a federal crime he would be the one going to jail but you would still be financially responsible. Don’t give laser pointers to kids and not supervise them. He’s 8.
