Old man at work had a heart attack because I makes a joke about the weather, am I wrong for not contributing money for flowers?

I was on the elevator with an old man this morning. I had never met him before but apparently he works on the floor above me. When we were ascending we exchanged pleasantries and I commented on how it was like “Noah’s flood out there” since there was a rainstorm. He found that so funny he and doubled over laughing. When we got to my floor, I said have a good day and he said the same through intense fierce guffaws. As the door closed behind me, I heard him start to choke and saw him grab his chest. I assumed he was in trouble, but since I had a busy morning I got right to work. There was a commotion shortly after and we later learned from an office-wide email that Glenn from floor 12— the man from the elevator— had been medevaced from the roof. Someone came around later with a get better soon card which I happily signed. But they also asked for a few bucks to contribute to flowers. I had a fiver on me, but I said I didn’t have any money because I always like to keep money on me in case something important comes up. I just told my buddies about this at the bar and they are giving me shit for it. Was I wrong?

You’re wrong for not checking on him and calling for help. Fuck the flowers. Do better.

Not wrong for not donating if you don't want to but you are definitely wrong for not helping. When someone is having a heart attack every minute counts.

« I always like to keep money on me in case something important comes up ». Maybe like… be a part of someone’s death?

I hope this is a troll post because anyone behaving like this in real life is super trashy.

You just let him spin because you couldn’t be arsed. You’re not right.

So, just to be clear here, you consider getting started on your work ASAP to be more important than someone's life...? Dude wtf?

because I always like to keep money on me in case something important comes up

Something important came up! Yes you were wrong!

you couldn’t give up your five dollars temporarily until you got another five bucks? like seriously? 😐 you’re an asshole for not calling for help. it’s takes two minutes to knock, ask if they’re okay, and if there’s no coherent answer, you call 911

Knock on the elevator?

i thought you meant he went into his apartment and closed the door.

honestly, it makes it worse if he didn’t go into the apartment and he was still in the elevator. it takes barely any time to press the elevator button again to either open the door or call the elevator back up.

i hope someone refuses to help you and leaves you to suffer because they don’t wanna waste 5 minutes of their day
