I have a favorite seat at the local cinema. It is two rows below the midpoint of the entire room, and two seats to the left. I’m an audiophile and when I first sat there a couple years back I was like in total awe of the sound of the movie. I thought the movie just had amazing sound design, and while that was certainly also true, the bigger factor was that my position in the room relative to the speakers was perfect.
It’s sort of become an “OCDism” for me, as I literally only see a movie if that specific seat is available, because why would I ever sacrifice the perfect movie going experience? Well, tonight I got the seat to see the new Hunger Games prequel snorefest, and when I got there the theater was packed. I found my seat and the row soon filled up to the point where the only open spots were the two single seats to my left and my right.
A teen couple arrived as the production company logos were starting, so VERY late, and accused me of being in one of their seats. I showed them my ticket and asked them to show me theirs, and what do you know? I’m right.
They say they must have misclicked when picking their seats at the kiosk, which is probably exactly what happened given that these potheads REEKED of reefer smoke. They asked if I would be willing to move.
I wasn’t going to let some junkies downgrade my movie experience, so I said no: that seat was MY seat. They looked mad and looked around the theater for any duo set of empty seats, but couldn’t find any so they had to sit on both sides of me. I could see their evil glares and rolling of their eyes, but I ignored it— if I wasn’t going to be in MY seat, I basically threw my money in the dirt!
In the end the movie sucked anyway, but I stand by my choice. What do you think?

Trying to think of what movie you went to see but I can’t remember if they turned Atlas Shrugged into a movie and why two teens would be there to see it.
You sound a thousand years old.

To be fair, I’m certain that moving one seat over probably would have totally changed the entire sound quality. /s You’re wrong. And an asshole.

I agree. I have known a lot of people, and none of them would talk this way unless they were trying to provoke a reaction.
