How do I make a Trader Joe’s Employee break character?

I’ve been seeing a genre of videos in which people make Buckingham Palace guards laugh or they say confusing things to characters at Disney world to trip them up in their acting. That got me to thinking— could the same be done at Trader Joe’s?

After all, these employees seem to be obligated to only say positive things and to never even veer towards the impolite. They have a impressive ability to always to pivot any conversation to the weather or to an exciting product in the store they cannot get enough of. Or something else that is unmistakably anodyne. I tried to make an inflammatory remark about the debate yesterday and the woman checking me out said “at least we’ve got the sun coming out this weekend.” Is there any way to trip them up and force them off script?

Step two would be to make this into a viral video format.

Thanks for your submission /u/LuciusDickusMaximus, but it has been removed for the following reason:

Disallowed question area: Illegal or unethical question.

Questions that involve breaking the law (even implicitly) are not allowed here. Asking how to commit a crime or advocating violence against others is not only against the rules here, they're against Reddit's site-wide policies. Giving out people's personal information online is also against the TOS; don't do that here, no matter how much they might deserve it.

Some topics aren't illegal but might be morally dubious, like how to get revenge on someone, hack into an account, cheat on exams, pull pranks or seduce people. We don't want to encourage this kind of behavior here, either.

  • Is your question purely hypothetical? Want to know why something is considered immoral? Try /r/MyFriendWantsToKnow.

Don't be an asshole to people who are just trying to earn a living.

I mean ,I guess you can be a raging asshole trying to get a rise out of underpaid service workers, but you'd be quite the Karen and hopefully recorded and shamed online.

Don't do that. They're not trained to be in the public eye, and they're just random people making mediocre wages. Don't be that dick that makes their lives harder for fake internet points.

Maybe don't be a dick to people trying to do their damn jobs and dealing with the public all day?

You ESPECIALLY don't try to abuse people to make fucking videos about it.

Don’t. These are people trying to make a living. There is no reason to make their job harder for your own amusement. It’s just cruel.
