Mean Girls Mandela Effect

I was at trivia yesterday and cost my team the game on the final question, which was “what town does Mean Girls take place?” My team was saying it was somewhere in Indiana or Illinois in the United States, but I was damn near certain the whole movie took place in a high school in Cape Town, South Africa. We got into a huge fight over it, but I snatched the pencil and paper, said that they would thank me later, and wrote down Cape Town and turned it in. Well, it turned out to be wrong according to the host and everyone on my team was livid. The host even made a joke that “one team appears to have only watched the first 5 minutes.” I rewatched the movie this morning, and I guess it now only starts in South Africa (and not even in Cape Town). But I’m 99.99% sure that in the movie my sisters made me watch a hundred times as a kid, she never left South Africa and the whole movie took place at Cape Town High School. I distinctly remember the scene where the hair stylist teaches her to “Bend & Snap” you can see the Cape of Good Hope through the window. The memory is so vivid I have to believe there’s something mandeley going on.

Bend and snap is legally blonde dude. Which also doesn't take place in Cape town.

The whole point of Cady’s story is that she’s FROM Africa and is a total newbie to US teen culture. The host may have been right, did you only watch the first 5 minutes?

Impossible otherwise the film would have been totally different! Schools/life in capetown South Africa are vastly different - from teenagers driving to the cafeterias, to the lack of uniforms, school buses, proms EVERYTHING.

Even Karen’s comment “ but if you’re from Africa why are you white?” Would be absolutely out of place -

I think maybe OP means for themselves (which isn't really an example, since the memory is individual, not collective; but I think that's how their using it, since they said they rewatched it and saw it was only in South Africa at the beginning), although they also say they're sure the version they watched with their sisters was different, so I don't know.

You being wrong about something isn’t the Mandela effect.
