Conservatives of Reddit, when was the moment you realized that taxation is theft?

When i realized my taxes pay for things a private company could provide and that the government over pays for material and labor on everything they do

Guess conservatives dont like roads, police emergency services, water, sewer, street lights, or 'basic education'...

(Among many other things)

roads

State DOT

police

City/county/state, depending on which division of police

emergency services

FD is either city or county, and I've had an ambulance bill on my desk for weeks

water, sewer

Privately owned companies

street lights

City

basic education

The only one you're correct about, but it's horribly mismanaged and in dire need of an organisational overhaul. The funding keeps going up, but somehow there's never any new equipment and teachers almost never get raises.

So should we pay for these things instead of the private people?

My point was that the federal government doesn't actually do any of those things, and the only one on the list that actually is related to the feds is such a dumpster fire that making it federal is a frankly ridiculous proposal.

Ah so you think we need more money for the FDs so they can put out the "dumpster" fires

Different levels of taxation. Water and sewer arent private everywhere. My post is totally on point. Taxation is not theft. People need public services, paid at some level(s) of government no matter where you live.

Water's free in like 80% of the country (we have wells).

Federal taxation is theft, however. The US made it for 150 years without it, and we can do it again.

Not while expecting todays standard of living.

What standard of living? Oh boy it sure is great to give up 30% of my pay check so someone else can buy soda and candy (up to 20% of EBT spending, according to NY Times), or so that Carl Crackhead can go to the ER when he cuts himself breaking my window.

You know what's really great? Driving past the social security office and watching someone drive their BMW in, get out of their car, walk to the trunk, pull out a wheelchair, and plop themselves in it to roll up to the front door.

That's true because I'm a liberal and I like roads, police emergency services, water, sewer, street lights, or 'basic education'... Probably they like the opposite then!

I'd be sympathetic to the idea if more conservatives were against the massive military spending. Cut military spending and put more money into all those things plus healthcare.

I concur. Hard to think that we need such a large number of planes maybe they could spend it on cool things like "military" tugboats instead

It's not theft, don't be silly.

It's extortion. There's a difference.

3

LuciusDickusMaximus

Ah! I had not considered! Can you explain the difference? Not sure I see the connection to twisting your body... Is it like the government twisting you to get theft money?

1

[deleted]

That's contortion.

See, theft is when you just take something. Breaking in to someone's garage And stealing their car is theft.

Extortion is making demands by threatening someone. Mob members coming around demanding "protection money" is extortion.

If you don't pay your taxes, you go to jail... which roughly translates to "give me your money or men with guns will forcibly remove you from your home and throw you in a cage with murderers and rapists."

LuciusDickusMaximus

I thought they had a separate prison for murders and rappists?

If you're rich, sure.

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

Ah so if you're going to kill someone, you should extort their money first?

I don't think tax is theft I think socialism is theft there is a difference.

LuciusDickusMaximus

So would you pay a tax if the United States wasn't socialist?

0

Kier68

The United States isn't socialist.

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

But Canada is socialist, right, so didn't we get infected from them a long time ago?

1

Kier68

No we did not .

Ah thank you for clarifying. God Bless America.

Do conservatives really care about taxes that much? I know some conservatives who support higher taxes on the rich.

Oh okay yeah I have a friend Petey who is the same. I just meant in a more general sense about how the government making you pay taxes is, you know, theft?

0

ILikePhilosophyy

I think that's more a "libertarian" position than anything. Conservativism is more about limiting government spending than anything. Though not when it comes to the military or ICE...

2

LuciusDickusMaximus

Yeah Huey said that to me too I told him if I wanted more ice I could make myself, you know, I don't need to government giving it to me.

Taxation isn't theft; otherwise, thieves would be "collecting taxes" instead of robbing people.

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

I agree; but for a thought experiment, maybe the government is the one big thief?

2

Truthpaste62

We are the government.... If you have ever read the constitution you would know, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union..."

2

LuciusDickusMaximus

isn't that from the Declaration of Interdependents?
