Do people actually have girlfriends because it seems like every girl I ask is "not looking for anything right now," so like if no is is looking for anything how would anyone be in a relationship?

Plenty of people are in relationships at the moment, plenty of people aren’t at the same time. Simple as that.

If you asked me "am I looking for a relationship" my answer is no. Because looking opens me up to rejection. If I play it chill and just see where things go then I'm not really getting rejected if things don't work out. It's a defensive mechanism and I know plenty of people of all genders and orientations that use it.

Not to be mean but maybe they’re just not looking for a relationship with you? Or you just happen to be running into everyone who wants to keep it super casual.

Lots of people have boyfriends/girlfriends, lots of people are single, lots of people are looking for someone and lots of people aren’t.

There are a lot of girls in a relationship, you can count on that. Problem is, during a specific part of a humans life chances are higher they are not looking for a partner (e.g. college for obvious reasons). Does not mean they change their mind soon, but people tend to be creative and try out things, before they throw themselves into something consistent. Or they try to forget the consistent through "nothing serious".
