Alfred Hitchcock's films were meant to be suspenseful but now they are viewed as quaint and charming.

I find them to be what he intended.

They were suspenseful mostly because they required the viewer to be intellectually engaged in the film. After successive generations of slasher and ultra-violent films, where our sensibilities are constantly bludgeoned by excessive stimuli, I'm afraid we've lost the ability to appreciate the nuances of films like the ones Hitchcock produced.

I don't watch the ultra violent ones, so I guess that explains it.

You are really smart. How hard is it to live surrounded by people who could never understand the world and film like you can?

Foolish take. If you look at the axial cuts in The 39 Steps, I'm sure you'd change your mind.

I didnt find vertigo or psycho to be quaint or charming. Rear window and North by northwest, yeah a little.
