I am Jerrick Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadams, the man who legally added a lot of A's to my name at age 18 so I would appear first on any alphabetized list. Ask me anything!

Did a ama on casualama and they recommended I post here. Ask me anything!

From that Ama, on why I changed my name:

"At the time, I was living in Slovakian Scholastic Commune. The cohorts were alphabetized and there were 41 people in my commune with names with at least 2 a's in front. The longest was Aaaaaawencelclovynski.

This meant that at dinner time, I had to wait at least 30 minutes to eat, since people were called up alphabetically. Well, I got sick of it. I asked the dining director if there was any way I could get my food earlier, but he said rules are rules. So I changed my name. That's the kind of guy I am.

Could have changed it back, but I think it's funnier this way, plus I always get to go first in alphabetized settings."

On average, how long does you're name take to say out loud?

Depends on who is saying it. To me, a second.

Are there names that beat out AAD for the first 3 letters?

Why didn’t you go with Aaaaaaaajerrick Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadams in case they went alphabetically by first name?

2

Wait was there actually someone with the name Aaaaaawencelclovynski?

Do you ever sign your name with the incorrect number of A's?

21

LuciusDickusMaximus

I did in the beginning. Now I've got my print name down to a rhythm.

I usually opt for a signature, though. Much easier.

How do you pronounce your surname? Probably going to need an audio file to answer this.

Still Adams. I kept the pronunciation the same

Yeah...still gonna want to hear that.

How do you think this will impact your career? If I saw this name on a resume, I’d probably assume that it was a really bad typo and throw the resume out.

What if someone puts more As to their last name and comes up on top. Would you again change your name?

If I was still in the commune, you know I would.

Is your original surname "Adams" a traditional Slovak name? What's your background?

Also...what is "Slovakian Scholastic Commune"? Googling for that brings up your AMA as the first hit. Is it a private boarding school I guess?

5

LuciusDickusMaximus

I'm not from Slovakia. I'm actually Polish on my mom's side, but my dad is an American. SSC is a Eastern European commune for mainly for people who graduated high school and are taking a gap year before college. The closest comparison would be a monastery, though it is areligious.

I know the definition of areligous.... I just mean the primary purpose of a Monastery is for religious retreat and mediation.... so the concept of an areligous monastery is somewhat perplexing to me.

How do you sleep at night knowing that there is probably a person in the world whose name starts with some type of punctuation mark, who would, by default, appear ahead of you on an alphabetized list if you were to end up in the same cohort somewhere?

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

Can't sleep knowing this person exists. They must be eliminated

You really should sign it this way as /u/MasterScrewdriver suggested.

2

Ameisen

But it isn't to the 24th power, it's multiplied by 24. (24*A)dams.

3

[deleted]

Naw, 24th power. The A's multiply by each other, not add. Most accurately, though, it would be Aa28dms

2

ThePracticalDad

Ah... Right. Should be like Jerrick Ae24dams

1

[deleted]

I can understand wanting to appear first on all lists. But I'm very curious, how did you decide on so many a's? Why not simply three a's? What was the thought process here?

1

LuciusDickusMaximus

It was more of a "fuck you" to the director rather than a pragmatic choice.

Mainly the situation in the OP

1

lookingrightone

[question] how you came up with this big name idea ? Reason ? How many 'A' in there ? Why you wanted to have long name ? Why you didn't preferred short name instead.

cruisin5268d

Wasn’t all of that answered in the OP?

5

LuciusDickusMaximus

The idea just came to me. There are 28 a's. I didn't really care about things like length of last name or whatever, since i was in a commune and there was no legal paperwork to fill out. Now it's only a minor inconvenience at best
