If Julius Caesar had a flame thrower, would he have been able to survive his assassination?

He wouldnt survive. HOWEVER cause he was stabbed in the back and the flame thrower is typically on the back. Everybody would die!!!!

Good point. What if Gaius Cassius had modern firefighter kit+ 1 fire extinguisher? How many senators survive?

Given that Julius Caesar was not expecting to be assassinated, I can't think of a good reason for him to bring a flame thrower into the Senate forum.

My first impulse is to say that if nothing else changes aside from the addition of a flamethrower then no, suddenly being grabbed and stabbed by people he trusted would still be fatal, although depending on how well he knows how to use the flamethrower and how well the conspirators know to wrestle the trigger away from him he'd likely take people down with him.

But on a deeper consideration, I would ask you to put yourself in the conspirators shoes. If you were planning to stab an unarmed man to death, and upon arriving at the murder location you instead discovered your target had somehow acquired a flamethrower, would you persist in bringing a knife to a flamethrower fight?

Speaking personally, the sudden addition of a flamethrower to pretty much any situation would make me drastically reassess my plans. So does deterring the attempt before it can happen count as surviving it?

This is a good, well thought out answer. 9/10, only for forgetting to factor in the chances Caeser catches his own toga on fire.
