For context I (27F) work at a Target in a mall. I usually take my breaks at the food court and chill with whoever is working with me.
This particular day I was eating with my coworker, let's call her Emma. Me and her are close and we like to shoot the shit. When she grabbed her food and came back to our table she said "look what I just found in my wallet!" and showed me a five dollar gift card to starbucks. Emma hates starbucks and said she was gonna throw it out, so I asked her if I could have it.
Instead, being a jokester as she is, she said "what do I get out of it?" I asked her what she wanted, and she pondered for a second, then pointed to a lady and said: "that's my old math teacher's wife. He was so bad" And then she took a napkin and started writing something then gave it to me. She told me to give it to her and not to read it or the deal was off. I considered for a moment then did it and walked back to my seat. I saw the woman read it and start crying.
"What the fuck did that say??" I asked. Emma snickered and told me it was a note saying that I was an ex-student of her husband and when I graduated he had an affair with me and another student. I told her it was fucked up, then forgot about it.
This morning, like a week or so later, I was watching the news and saw that this man get fired and divorced for "illicit conduct with former students." My stomach felt like a rock.
And then, I went to Starbucks to get my coffee. The gift card was declined because it only had 30 cents left on it.

That's fucked up. Guy lost his job, probably his wife. If this is real, you and your friend are real pieces of shit.
You need to make this right.

If this is true, I hope you make it right. You don’t want this on your conscious forever, right? You could be saving a family from breaking up.
The idea of someone doing this with my family makes me sick. Please right this wrong.

Yeahhh I went in wanting to believe it but Idk
3
It did happen. I'm not the type of person to karma farm. I really didn't know who to tell this to
2
Well, if it’s true, you should be actually telling someone it would matter to. Maybe the superintendent, the cops, his wife, idc. But sitting by and watching this happen makes you a horrendous human being. As the story goes, it wouldn’t be your fault that it happened, but it’s absolutely your fault if you do nothing about it. And your friend is a sociopathic bitch. So come clean about this shit. Idc who you have to tell.
All that if this is true, of course.

If it is true, you better own up to it quick, because you and her both face legal liabilities for defamation and slander.
2
They would not have fired him without any evidence of this happening, and yeah this is total bullshit
2
You literally are.
1
You can tell just by the way it's written that it's made up.
And if it's true then there should be a link to the news story.

I literally had no idea

I don’t think this is, in any way, true. But I mean, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that someone could get fired for accusations. Especially in an at-will state. In my state, my boss could fire me cause she just doesn’t like me, no real reason needed.
1
I live in an at-will state as well and that wasn't my concern legally; the press release stating that he's been molesting little girls is the concerning part, legally, based on hearsay.
1
Oh for sure, I was just referencing that you said he couldn’t lose his job just on accusations.
2
Yeah probably could have phrased that better lol
