IsItBullshit: You can tell if a lightbulb doesn’t work by putting it in oil

My uncle told me an easy trick to see if a lightbulb doesn’t work is to drop it into oil: if it begins to spin, it works. Is this true?

That's bullshit.

First, frankly? Why would you even do that. You're wasting oil, if nothing else.

Second, there's really no reason at all for a light bulb to just start spinning in oil. And I don't care what kind of light bulb it is.

Lastly, there's a super, super simple and effective way to test a lightbulb. Put it in a fixture and turn it on. Why on Earth would you need to do something ridiculous like dropping it in oil?

If you plug it in and it doesn't turn on, this is a pretty good indicator.

To fully test you'd need to find a known working bulb and put it in the same socket.

What kind of bulb? Energy saving, LED or old school?
