I recently started building a catapult in my apartment so I could shoot my trash out of the window and into the dumpster below. I have had several prototypes, and this morning I was ready for the first official launch.
I loaded up 2 trash bags and fired out the window. From there, everything went in slo motion as I realized what was happening. First, the trash bag got a little caught on the catapult so it basically just was dropped straight out the window. When I looked down, I saw my dyslexic neighbor eating his lunch directly in the path of the falling trash. I tried to yell out to him, but a nearby train blocked out the noise. I made split second decision and shut the window and hid. I then heard the slam of trash below and I heard his yelling. He still doesn’t know it was me.
To be clear, I have nothing against the dyslexic. This was just an accident.
TL;DR: Couldn’t read the signs that danger was near.

Yeah this is definitely a made up story.
There’s no reason he would even know the guy was dyslexic unless they were friends.
But if they were friends he probably would’ve apologized.

Have you never talked to your neighbours? I feel like someone bringing up that they're dyslexic in a conversation isn't completely outlandish.
1
Don't worry homie, it goes so much deeper than that. Check out my second edit :)
1
How about a plot twist?
OP is ignorant and believes dyslexic means something else.
Perhaps OP wanted us to feel sorry for the neighbour in this obviously made up story and highlighting an illness would make for a better punchline.

Perhaps they confused “dyslexic” with “autistic,” apparently some folks have problems with people who are autistic?

Dyslexia (Dys from the Greek dyso- meaning trouble, Lexia from the Greek lexus meaning reading) is a disease that is very near and dear to my heart.
Also, The blind arrogance of saying that this story is “obviously made up” makes me crack up. Is your life so boring and sad that this seems that far fetched to you??
Hey homie, it goes so much deeper than that. Check out my second edit :)

What you are seeing here used to be a relevant comment/ post; I've now edited all my submissions to this placeholder note you are reading. This is in solidarity with the blackout of June 12, 2023.

ohh so a simple dyslexic = can't read. Meh, a bit of a weak link. I would have expected some anagrams or something

I call BS, a trebutchet isn't superior as a siege weapon because you have to build it right outside the castle under enemy fire because it doesn't have wheels.
3
In your opinion, what is the superiour siege equipment? I am interested, feel free to be thorough and convince me.
5
The catapult. I've already made my stance on the trebutchet clear, and the only other major candidate is the ballista, which isn't as effective when it comes to breaking walls and such. The mobility advantage just makes the catapult superior.
2
When you can launch a 95 kilogram projectile 300 meters you are basically out of range of enemy fire
2
Except they might have trebutchets too...
3
Trebuchets had wheels. What trebuchet are you talking about?
1
Not the ones that could fire long distances, which is the major advantage the trebutchet has.
1
Only a few of them, I'd say, were built without wheels. The wheels on a trebuchet were kinda necessary because they helped to keep it steady when the arm is propelled forward. The wheels also helped to prevent it from pulling forward, causing the trebuchet to fly forward when the arm is propelled. The power of the arm with the wheels helped it get that distance and to keep in place. Without the wheels, it wouldn't have that good of a structure.
1
No, the fact that it didn't have wheels is the reason they could shoot so far. Without wheels, you get a steadier weapon that is more likely to not keep its balance.
Happy cakeday!
1
The weight of the wheels is what kept them on the ground. They did try it without wheels and realized that it came up too far and would break the structure of the trebuchet over time. So, they kept the wheels because it was like a counterweight. It also allowed it to roll back and forth when the arm propelled, keeping it steady and getting a better distance.
Think about a pitcher in baseball, and that's pretty much how the structure managed. The wheels were a very important part of the physics of the trebuchet.
1
Well, no, most trebutches were placed on the ground with actual counterweights holding it down. If you want a mobile siege weapon, look at the superior one, the catapult.
1
Alright, well this is the last thing I'm going to send: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/lostempires/trebuchet/wheels.html
Not all had wheels, but most of the time they did have wheels because they were useful as counterweights, not so much for movement. They could be disassembled and transferred, but they still used wheels.

Hahaha it was actually literally 4 small dumbbells and a bunch of food scraps funnily enough
9
So you could have fucked this poor man up with 4 literal dumbells and you didnt see why that might be a bad idea to shoot out of your window?
9
They were all 1 pound weights calm down

1) how did the trash end up being 20 pounds then? 2) hitting someone's head even with 4 pounds doesnt seem dangerous to you?
3
1) lots of food scraps 2) why do you think I hid?

Dont get so defendive then 😂😂😂
