Its because crying publically is a sign of weakness, and was considered to be permitted in only certain situations.

Men can cry. But society does not care and many would view it as disgusting if a man does it. Wanna talk about gender oppression? Men aren't afforded a basic human function when grieving. We are punished and told to man up.

Any amount of downvotes proves the oppression and societal pressure exists

Exactly! Toxic masculinity and the standards that men are forced to go through because of it are ridiculous. Men should be allowed to show emotion, show affection in a non romantic way, and have interests that are typically “feminine”
