Zoos have no real reason to have cages besides maintaining an image of control over nature.

You clearly not seen a zoo where natural obstacles (ditches, etc) are used to prevent animals attacking humans. Like this Hungarian zoo in Nyíregyháza (https://www.sostozoo.hu/). It's amazing that you can observe many-many animals in huge areas without anything perceivable between them and you.

Bro there’s safaris if that’s you thing. But the one thing you gotta remember is that nature doesn’t play nice.

Anyone who thinks nature is "harmonious and peaceful" has clearly never even seen a nature documentary at the bare minimum

Well the way I see it. If it was up to nature my mum would have died giving birth to my older brother. Nature can sit a few things out.

Tell that to my neighbor's aunt who was killed by a cougar. Or to my parents' coworker who had both arms ripped off by a bear.

My parents are geologists, so I've lived a lot of different places. All in the middle of nowhere.

So I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

If so, they owe me royalties for stealing my origin story.

Man, what is with the weird shower thoughts posts today? First one about "with age, the inside number is more important than the outside number" now this.

You really think people wouldn't fuck with the animals or scare them if given the chance?

Yeah, cages are as much for the animal’s protection as for the visitor. Maybe more so, even

Not saying I agree with keeping wild animals caged in zoos but I imagine that part of the reason is probably so the animals don't maul people to death. Just saying 🤷‍♀️
